Rapid Wind Lever for Pentax MV

I was out shooting with my trusty Pentax MV yesterday, but at some point during the day its rapid-wind lever must have become loose, came off and is now lost for good.

What's the best way to find a replacement rapid-wind lever? Should I track down an old MV for parts, or is it possible to source a replacement wind lever with the right washers elsewhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sometimes people sell spare parts on ebay but your best bet is probably to buy a "spares or repair" donor body.

I agree with Womble. I know from experience that the film rewind crank on the MV is also prone to breakage so a donor body with this intact as well as your advance lever would be ideal.

Great, thanks for such prompt replies!

Does anyone know if the rewind crank from an MV-1 would be compatible? Doesn't seem to be a huge difference between that and the MV.

Is there a reason the MV's lever was prone to breakage? If it's the same as the ME Super (And the attaching point looks the same) PM your address and I'll throw a lever, washer and cap in an envelope

They look identical to me and as the MV-1 was only a minor upgrade, I can't see why Pentax would have changed it.

Great that RedRuff is offering to send you the parts. They are the same as the ME, ME Super, and MV-1. Harder to find in black. See below for the parts you need. Remember the nut and cap screw are left hand thread. If you don't have a spanner for the nut you can use a small pair of needle nose pliers or similar. The cap screw can be tightened pretty well with rubber bottle stopper or other piece of rubber by pressing with your thumb. I would suggest a bit of loctite or even fingernail polish on the threads to ensure your parts don't work loose again.

Thanks all for chiming in. RedRuff has posted the replacement parts to me. What a gent!

Thanks also to Procrastinator for the schematic and installation instructions; the repair doesn't sound too tricky, so I'll let you know how I get on.

The MV lives again!

Thanks to everyone for their help, particularly RedRuff who generously donated the parts.

Yay. I'm always happy when I see a resuscitated film camera.
