World wide colour film shortage.

I was in NYC last week and B&H Photo was out of stock of all colour E6 in 135, except for FPP Retrochrome 400. (Expired Ektachrome)

Went to my local film store here in Vancouver today and the same thing. They only had the odd roll of colour film in any format, except for CineStill 800T and Kodak Ultramax 400 in 135.

The clerk said they have been having issues ordering any colour film in the last few months and said there is a world wide shortage due to some manufacturing issue.

No problem getting b&w film.

Anyone else having issues getting colour E6 or C41 film in 135 or 120?

Phil.

Yes, online it's more expensive than say in 2109, if available at all. My lcs only has pro options, cheaper film like gold and superia is all sold out I'm assuming

My local shop is the same. They were having to scrape their distributors for film.

It's like there's been some global interruption in the manufacturing and shipping of goods at some point in the past two years...

But yeah, it's pretty annoying...

Yeah, they (Kodak, Fuji, etc.) had some trouble keeping up with demand before even covid hit, which made it worse. I remember seeing on Nicos Photo Show that Kodak had put ProImage 100 on the back burner for now, due to that the Portra films are selling waaaaay more that they could make.

Ektar 100 was really hard to come by for a while, but then lots of places had it in stock so I snagged some. Fuji discontinuing Pro 400H is likely not helping the supply/demand curve at all. For Ilford B&W stock, Midwest Photo still seems to have pretty good quantities at non-stratospheric prices. They also have a smattering of color stock (E-6 and C-41) in 120…135 seems harder to come by, as even UltraMax 400 is back ordered.

Analogue Wonderland in the UK seem to have plenty of colour film, especially the Kodak range.

I just went to my local camera store, and they were out of Ultramax 400 as well. They tell me they've been having issues getting color film. I settled on a roll of Kodak Gold 200 as a test roll for a new camera that I purchased. B&W stock was ok.

I have too much already to be buying more but I use colour film much less these days since choice is less and less and prices are through the roof, even for the cheapie consumer grade stuff.

I just bought the last 8 rolls of 135 Ektachrome 100 from my local processing lab and they are also having supply chain issues getting new film. (Price for E100 has gone up to $28.95 CDN per roll or around $24USD)

I'm shooting color the old fashioned way... with BW film. With 3 frames per color image plus the time involved, I don't know how cost effective it is.

Sample on Ilford Delta 100:

There's no way I would pay that for any film.
