Off camera flash/strobe light for Pentax k1000?

I'm wanting to source an off camera flash & softbox, I'm new at studio photography so I'm sorry if i sound a bit noob-ish lol.

I'm wanting to shoot a person outdoors using 1x off camera flash so the light will need to have a battery.. but I'm having trouble finding a receiver that fits the Pentax K1000 - I was hoping to rent a light, but maybe I will need to buy a receiver and then rent the light?

I really want to do this idea so if any can help that would be so so great.

Thanks!

Did you mean a trigger (ie a transmitter) rather than a receiver? The K1000 has a conventional hot shoe, albeit a basic one, so what exactly is the trouble finding a trigger fit?

It would be much cheaper and easier to just use a flash sync cord. The K1000 has a PC connection for this purpose.

If the flash sync cord does not work due to distance involved you could try simple optical triggering. Get a cheap low powered basic flash on the hotshoe and a more powerful flash for your softbox which can be switched to "dumb" slave mode. This means that the latter will fire when it sees the flash on your camera fire.

If shooting outdoors you may have line-of-sight issues depending on ambient brightness.

See the Godox / Flashpoint system, with a radio trigger unit that fits on the camera, such as this one: https://www.adorama.com/fprrr2tpii.html Or this one: Xpro-P-Product-GODOX Photo Equipment Co.,Ltd.
It will trigger any off-camera flash unit from their range of flashes, such as the TT600 https://www.adorama.com/fplfsmzm.html or TT350P TT350P-Product-GODOX Photo Equipment Co.,Ltd.

See https://strobist.blogspot.com/ and the recommended kit, based on the TT600 at https://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/03/lighting-101-traveling-light.html

Ditto on CristiC's recommendation. I have the Pentax version of the R2 Pro Mark II and like it well. Good range, flexible, and reasonable prices.

But will these work well with a K1000 ?

I use radio triggers on my K1/K1II but have never tried them with film cameras.

Those triggers will work in manual (M) mode, not TTL. Another model is the Godox XT16 trigger, it has just a central pin and is meant for manual control of power levels. I bought a second unit some days ago. It works with my Pentax ME Super.

Any transmitter should fit on your camera, and any receiver and any flash/strobe in manual mode.
