Have you tried a polarizer for that problem?

BTW, that second shot - the concrete mixer - looks way more contrasty than the first. Could be the different lens maybe?

Actually, I did a bit of manipulation there for the contrast - now I regret this - for the CITY sign on the truck

Here, last one I promise , is a sample straight from the CVS scan, with the pinkish cast uncorrected, SMC-M 50/1.7, sunlight.
