that's blasphemy here mate. Takumars are held in such high regard they compare themselves to no one.

Right on! Can't wait to get images back then (well...have to shoot out the last 22 on this roll!) I haven't shot with the 135 yet...just the 50. I'm also writing down and taking close notes on all exposure setups so I can see how accurate I am!

little known fact: Asahi Opt. Co. took a loss on each and every Takumar screwmount lens ever made (this includes the earlier M37's) because each and every lens was inspected and tested. that's why they work so well and have survived so well to garnish such a reputation today. talk about quality control. its amazing Asahi Opt. stayed in business this way. Canon lenses may be damn good, but I doubt they have ever been openly compared to Zeiss, like Takumars have. =)

It is the 3.5, same as you. I think I might go crack the case open here in a bit and shoot...light outside is outstanding today, a bit overcast, just perfect.

I do hear you about the Canon lenses. So too often these days you hear of "bad ones." I've never heard of anyone getting a bad Takumar. I will take the same angle/lighting photo with both and compare their differences wide open....you know, where a 50mm lens really shines!

IMHO The 135 is one of the best focal lengths, not as big as a 200, not as small as an 85
very good for protraits BTW. The 3.5 is a good all around lens, I loved it while I had it (It smashed to pieces against a tiled floor)

Takumars were inspected and reinspected true, same with the cameras (then those pesky gold oval stickers started in all japanese stuff)

before that it was quite normal that a new camera would not work (even Leicas)

Nooooo ... I'd cringe at the thought of dropping one of my Taks ... I think I'd even cry if i did.

I actually really like the 135mm length ... it's a good one for flora/garden shoots. That and pets that don't like getting all that close as well.

I just jumped on, but I doubt I'd be getting sweet deals like yours. People where I am (I joined the Manila group) would try to sell cameras (even cameras in really terrible and non-working condition) they have before giving up and throwing it away. Photography has become quite a boon recently here (both digital and film), so others who found old cameras in their attics but have no desire to do photography as a hobby are trying to cash in.

The concept behind Freecycle is nice, though.

Long story... got the lens for next to nothing, it had fiungus in the middle
Dissasembled and cleaned it, put it back together
shot a few test shot of my daughter and came out great.

Set the lens on a table while changing lens.... and someone else bumped on the table
I stared at it in disbelief then looked at the pieces and then a tear trickled down my cheek

Sorry but I think you guys would understand.....
