so I am keeping my MZ7 . the price I was about to get for her was not worth it

and I do like this camera.
now for my k20D I am using primes mostly. I would like to get a decent and relatively cheap zoom around the normal - tele range. auto focus will be nice.

max price I can afford at this time is about $200
please help

I think you could get a 28-105mm /f3.2-4.5 for under $200 and it's a fairly good lens.

Check out the marketplace on this forum. Do not get a DA or DA* lens; any other Pentax lens will cover the whole 35mm frame on your film SLRs.

I can highly recommend the FA 28mm-70mm constant f/4. Very nice lens, extremely light and small and so a very nice compliment to an MZ series camera. It lives on my PZ-1. Perfect walk-around lens.

There were apparently some claimed QC issues with the lens and apparently separation of elements on some, but neither copy I've owned has ever done this.

You can pick one up for about $100.00 and at that price, mine has paid me back many, many times. If it ever separates it won't owe me a dime.

If you can work with a manual zoom and need a bit more reach, the Pentax 45-125mm f/4 is one sharp zoom and it can probably found for $100 or less. The downside is the lack of wide angle.

For $200 there are a few zooms you can get
The Sigmas/Tamrons are pretty decent and will cover the ange you want.

AND the K20 lenses will work (most of the time) in the MZ-7

This will be my recommendation also. AF, better speed than usual 28-80 zooms, and pretty good performance, too. I miss mine already. Sold it to finance another lens.

The 28-70 f/4 is good also. I reckon any copies of that lens that are in good condition still in this day and age have probably been spared of the lens separation 'curse'.

The SMC-A 35-105 would be an excellent choice within the price range. The only drawbacks being lack of autofocus and the fact that it weighs 650g.

The AF zoom that has most shocked me for its performance is the FA 28-90, which can be had for all of 20 bucks or so. It is actually a very good performer, believe it or not.

I bought one when I had a combination of bad LBA and no money, but it turned out to be really good.

And then it leaves you another $180 for even more lenses...

Is it available for $20 already? I thought this is the preferred lens over the much-maligned (with good reason for some) 28-70/4, which drove the price for the 28-90 up. Goes to show I haven't been doing my eBay homework.

I believe your MZ7 and FA 28-70mm f/4 AL are made for each other. They can live happily ever after you marry them!

Agree with others. The FA28-70/4 and FA28-105/3.2-4.5 are probably the best bests in this price range, and represent excellent match for your nice, compact, and light MZ-7. One other reasonably-priced choice would be the F35-70 f/3.5-4.5. Also consider the AA Battery Pack Fg if you don't already have one.
