will you be developing yourself?

will you use flash?

who and how are scanning it?

Best film for people pictures, hands down, is Kodak Portra NC.

It's a little more expensive but worth it. It's very kind to skin tones, and holds whites (like in wedding or debutante dresses) without blowing out.

Depending on the location and lighting conditions, and lens:

Natural daylight, no flash: Portra 160NC
Subdued daylight, fast 50mm: Portra 400NC
No daylight, bounce flash: Portra 400NC or Portra 800NC
No daylight, direct flash: Portra 160NC or 400NC --- but I wouldn't recommend direct flash if you want people to look their best.

Portra can be reliably developed, scanned and printed at most competent labs. The latest versions of Portra are designed to be very scanner friendly.

Just a quick echo of the recommendation for Portra NC. More of my photos that end up on the wall have come from 400NC than all the other films I've used.

If you can locate some 400 Ultra Color (also from Kodak), I think you'd like it too. Skin tones look natural and the color isn't gaudy.
