Very nice. I have a Hi-Matic 9 that I have yet to run film through and these give me an idea of what I might expect.

Steve
Thanks Steve- I've posted some other shots of colour film running through (Kodak Ultramax Gold 400) if you are planning colour- the scans were pretty bad though as done by local generic high street chain. These were by a friend who is heavily into amateur home developing.

It would be awesome to see some 9 shots, I'm very impressed by the ease of use of the Minolta, lovely glass even usable in low light and the rangefinder system is wonderful.

After a very long time deliberating, I finally decided to buy a spot meter. I got a Minolta Spotmeter F. Previously, I'd only been using incident metering. I'm trying to do the Zone System. I don't think I've mastered it yet, but I'm definitely taking shots I would not have tried previously. Here's one:

Fuji GS645S, Portra 400

My intention was to put the sky on Zone VI to get pastel colours, and to accept that the tree would fall into deep black, making it just a silhouette. I'm not sure it's a great photo, but it turned out the way I wanted, which is quite satisfying! I wasn't as successful with some of the other shots on the first roll, but it seems like a good start.

Ed Thomas on YouTube had just done a couple of videos on the Zone System. I had never seen the point to it myself, until he explained it to me in a response to my comment to that effect. Basically, using it you can tell whether or not its worthwhile taking a shot or not, depending on your film's latitude. With decades of experience and learning from trial and error, I am still far from convinced it has any relevance to myself.

I have the same meter. It is much more reasonably priced on the used market compared to the Pentax meter that is in Ansel’s book. I bought it for using with my large format camera, but have not started shooting with this camera yet (more kit to buy).

After experimenting with the meter I learned that I was not very good at estimating middle grey. What I thought was mid grey was typically one zone higher. It is useful to calibrate your understanding of mid grey to get better results when using other spot metering cameras. The experience made me realise that a more reliable approach is to meter the darkest shadow where you want detail and set this as shadow zone (-2.7EV). You can then scan around the scene to see where the other zones fall.

I also have an OM4Ti which has a brilliantly implemented spot meter, and have been experimenting with similar techniques with this camera. The nice thing about the OM4Ti is that you can use the auto mode while still having very accurate control of the metering when you want it.

Pentax z70+DA-35+HP5. This is with the DA-35 at f/2.4.

The z70 and this lens (along with the DA-50) is just a superb combo for 135-format photography on the cheap. I only wish it was easier to get batteries for the z70 where I live. I hope my z70 doesn't stop working anytime soon because I doubt I can find another one for 5 Euro now! (I bought mine complete with an F 35-80 f/4-5.6 for that price in 2012. Seriously.)
