Better for...?

K1000 is fully manual...ME-S is aperture priority-enabled...and the list goes on.

The gear list in my sig shows how I solved this issue

The MEs is a much better camera, but the K1000 is more appreciated (overpriced)

The ME Super is the better one. The K1000 is the one I like best.

it depends on how you want to utilize the camera. just because the ME super is more advanced doesn't necessarily make it better overall. however, yes the ME super is more advanced, has a larger brighter viewfinder and has both manual and Av. its also smaller if that counts for anything. if I had to pick between the two it would be the ME super. the ME super has a shutter lock, the K1000 does not, and I can assure you shutter lock on a film camera is important. unless of course you don't actually use the thing or can afford to accidentally waste frames. film isn't cheap. plus you can likely get an ME super for a cheaper price than a K1000, simply because of the cult popularity of the damn thing.

apples and oranges... a better comparison would be K1000 vs MX...

But to answer your question... the ME Super is "more capable" feature-wise but has a lower resale value due to the nostalga factor of the K1000.

Well, for learning how to photograph - K1000. For actually doing it once you know how, the ME Super has an edge. If I was coming from digital to film, I think an ME Super would be much, much better with its Av mode and the shutter speed control buttons. Better than either, the Super Program.

Following the progression Good, Better, Best, (Standard, Comparative, Superlative), one must first say what is good before one say which is better (define a Standard, then Compare the two cameras).

The KX is better than the K1000 (comparative manual cameras)
The MESuper is better than the ME (somewhat comparative Av small cameras)

The K2 might be better than the MESuper to some people (comparative Av cameras)
The MX is probably better than the KX to everyone (except me - the MX is too small for my hands)

The LX is the best Pentax manual focus camera body

etc.

K1000, ME Super... I for one care less for them.

There is naught nor ought there be nothing so exalted on the face of gods grey
Earth as that prince of cameras... the LX!

A Super Program with a Pentax-A is unbeatable. Av, Tv, Auto. I like that one too.

My biggest problem with the K1000 is the lack of the split prism.

I know, the K1000SE has it but it's not a candidate here.

I do not love the brown leather on the K1000 SE. The one I had once quickly left my hands, admittedly with other issues as well.
