Yeah, I'm going to test the other controls this weekend. I've been down with a cold and haven't felt like shooting until last night. Actually, I finished up a roll last night with this new lens and the MZ-7 and will process them today.

That was a necessity for me in the early 90s when I was shooting research pictures with a Nikon FE2. I had to keep a tight control on films and code them.
Now I see this is just the squarish numbers in the corner of the picture, not useful anymore

I agree, a DATA back would nice if it actually recorded data and not dates. I remember carrying a small notebook to record film speed, fstop, shutter speed, and whether or not I used ev compensation or not for each frame I shot. And sometimes forgetting to write those things down.

WOW, that's pretty cool. Of course with Digitals, you can get the EXIF info. At least on my p&s Nikon I can, and I assume you can on Pentax's DSLRs.

I can usually tell just by looking at the image how I screwed up.
And it's usually not those numbers, but crappy composition...

Chris, that would be nice but since both my cameras are film/35mm, I can't see the image first off to tell if it's screwed up or not.

Me too. The image I refer to is a slide or negative/print.

If I were interested in a preview I'd shoot digital, but I am not.
I'd rather take my chances, trusting my photographic skills and the latent image.
To me that's part of the fun and magic of photography.

The Nikon F100 and Pentax 645N are film cameras.
That data can be viewed only after film is processed and is for reference only.

I prefer film to digital. I do have a little point and hope that I use very rarely, but comes in handy for that quick shot of a dirty computer to show my customers.

I used to carry a reporter's notebook. They were slim and fit in my Levi's back pocket. I haven't looked around the stores to see if I could find something similar, but I'm going to when I start shooting more. I like to keep track of my settings on photos.

Look for 'Moleskine' notebooks - they come in several shapes and sizes, including a pocketable reporter style. That's what I use. You can find them at Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc.

That's weird, cause I don't remember that *ist being offered in either film and digital. This one came out just as a friend (at the time) was considering buying one and I did some research for him. I must have missed that part.

Well, I don't remember finalizing this thread but here's the gist....or total problem is fixed. Coupled with old expired film and that lens what that caused my problems. The dust I talked about in another thread was because this old expired film had not been kept properly. It was not in a canister.
