I have wanted to do that for a while, but haven't taken the time to get it together. There are many people on www.apug.org who have used coffenol with nice results.

I've been using coffee for most of the last year. It's cheap. It's easy. And I like the results.

Isn't E6 a colour film process?

Are you planning to just give it a try and see what happens, or do you know this will work but with strange results?

It is specifically a color reversal film. However, the above link has this in it:

I have a bunch of expired c-41 colour film that needs to get used, maybe I'll try it also.

Great site by the way, I really get a kick out of the Lego pin-hole cameras.

Development with coffee caught my attention in 2003, I contacted people at RIT who published some articles about it, and in cooperation with Donald Qualls and other guys at PNet and APUG several lessons wer learned:
- The develoment agent is NOT caffeine, but the tannins and the caffeic acid. In that sense mint, lavender, and the bark from some willow trees can be used.
- The agents are very similar to pyrochatechin, which is a very old staining developer. Thus the coffee stain, relatively small grain and easy print
- Vitamin C was added to speed up development and make the stain go away in microfilm, 4 g/l was sufficient to make the stain light, and since vitC is a developer by itself shadow detail is highly improved even at short dev times.
- The order of addition makes a difference, 1st the soda until the grit is gone, then the vitC then the coffee crystals/powder
- Not all films work. As a rule of thumb expose at box speed or below. Development times in the order of 30-45min expected.
- Caffenol/Folgernol/Coffeenol is fun, learn and master it.

red wine should work.. quite expensive though since you have to concentrate the tannins by boiling the wine to a syrup stage (and eliminate most of the alsohol in the process)

it is better to develop film WHILE having a glass of red wine

They may increase the contrast, now rough edges are treated easier with wodka than with wine....

So coffee can be used as developer, vinegar can be used for stop bath, and a drop of dish soap for photo flo. Any "Macgyver" substitutes for fixer?

(Blue - please let me know how that E-6 coffee thing comes out)
