I've been having problems with my ZX-10. I treat it well, with a bag and lense cover. Although it's reached a point where I can't take pictures. Upon further investigation, the shutter curtain doesn't open up, but ARE aligned correctly (as far as I know). The actual shutter itself will not go back down, and a winding sound ensues. Because of this, I can't take a picture or even look through the viewfinder. Every few times I turn it on and off, the shutter curtain will in fact open correctly, and the shutter itself will shoot back up, and won't come back down. I have to turn it on and off many times before it finally returns to the correct place. I can post pictures if necessary, and this isn't a reoccurring problem.

Almost certainly a cracked mirror motor gear. It's the classic failure mode for this series of cameras.
