Tokina 19-35mm and Pentax 18-35 on film?

Any experience with Tokina 19-35mm and Pentax FA J 18-35mm on film? I'm looking for a wide angle zoom lens for film camera. But, would prefer to spend as little as possible.

I used my Vivitar version of the 19-35 on my ZX-7 and it performs very well on a film camera.

FA J 18-35mm is a film lens, you should not have any problems
not sure about the tokina, but in worst case you'll have some vignetting

It's supposed to be a film lens.

Both should be fine on film. I will have to borrow my daughter's
Tokina over Christmas and do a short test series.

Anyone care to share a feedback on image quality for these two lenses when used on film? I'm converned about image sharpness and resolution. I know they are not kings in digital but was hoping that on film they will perform well.

This review of the Tokina 19-35/3.5-4.5 is from the Sony Camp with comment on APS and Full Frame. Its pretty thorough and theres a good amount of sample photos posted.

Here's a shot using the lens on an *ist, gold 100.

Crystal Lake fall photo - Dana Finchum photos at pbase.com

I like the lens on film, not my favorite on digi. I 'upgraded' to the Sigma 17-35mm EX as a replacement.

Great review! Thanks for sharing it! I have some experience with my daughter's copy on APS-C and the review bears out my impressions.

I have this lens and it is actually quite good. It is tough to beat for the price.

Was the Tokina rebranded into promaster? I've got a Promaster Spectrum 7 that looks very much like the Vivitar Series 1, but black.

if I am not mistaken, and I very well could be. This lens was re branded as the promaster, vivitar, phoenix and a few others that I don't recall.

I also have the 20-35F/2.8 tokina that is very. very good. Infact, one of my best lenses.

As Javier suggests...there may be some rebranding. Though I would add that similar specs does not equal same lens. I have handled the Promaster and Vivitar lenses with similar specs and they don't have the same build as the Tokina. There are also differences in dimensions, minimal focus distance, and weight.

Just for comparison, here are images of all three lenses:

I guess! The Tokina 20-35/2.8 is an outstanding performer. Too much money for me though!

Interesting. My promaster looks EXACTLY like the Vivitar, except it's black. It even has the "AF" in the rubber zoom ring...

Honestly, for the price I paid for it, it's an excellent lens. Things start looking pretty weird at 19mm, especially when I start forcing perspective.
