Fastest M42 Sync Speed?

I've got a pretty decent little M42 kit going, and I'd like to shoot some flash stuff with 'em on film.

What's the fastest syncing camera out there that is native M42 mount? Or would I be better off finding a beater Canon Rebel to use my M42-EOS adapters on?

1/125s for cameras with a vertical travel metal curtain.

That would include such oldies as the Ricoh Singlex TLS as well as new comers like the Bessaflex TM.

Chinon has some models with 1/125 sync:
Chinon Screw-Mount Cameras

As does the Bessaflex:
Voigtlander Bessaflex TM

Some Prakticas manage this as well, and there are others. I don't know if there are any faster.

I believe the Pentax PZ1p synced at 1/250th second, but the OP would need the ever useful m42 adapter.
This is if he decides to go that way rather than chancing a really old SLR that may or may not still be working right.

don't forget PZ-1 also, it had the same shutter as PZ-1p

There are also lots of cameras out there in K mount with vertical metal shutters at 1/125th of a second using the same M42 adaptor.

also what about high speed sync (multi burst mode) on he pentax *istD and DS. I have not tried, but can it work with M42 lenses?

Huh? Many of us on the film forum have "really old" M42 SLRs that work quite dependably and are quite capable shooters.

The main thing that a native M42 body offers is the automatic diaphragm that allows full-open focusing without having to manually stop down to shoot. I have three K-mount film bodies and two M42 bodies and much prefer the M42 bodies for my screw-mount lenses. Using the same lenses on the K-mount bodies is possible, but is sort of a pain in the rear.

Thanks for the links, I'll check those out.

Stop-down mode on my DSLR when using flash is a PITA (to the point that I never use strobes when M42 lenses are mounted), so I'm trying to avoid the same thing when using film.

Are you making a blanket statement that all M42 cameras are still in dependable working condition?

Which model DSLR, I find the TTL flash on my *istD quite simple to use with M42 lenses, focus stop down and push the button, no thinking no PITA, it just works. It's one reason why I always recommend the *istD as a second body, it has functionality that sets it apart from all the other used bodies out there.

I admit I don't do this with my K10D or K7D because I woud consider using auto flash a PITA regardless of needing to stop down or not,

In this respect I also agree with wheatfield, a PZ-1 or PZ-1p would still be the best option because of TTL flash plus it is a good film back up body for all the lenses you use on your DSLR. It can even work with FA-J lenses, and DA lenses with KAF2 (crippled mount)

Avoid the PZ-20, it's only 1/90

Although it's a good camera otherwise.

I shoot a Canon 40D for digital and don't care much for on-camera flash.

Ever here of CLA? Besides, there are newer cameras from the 90s and this decade that don't work correct.

Only NOS. There are plenty of M2 and M3 bulbs out there. There are some specialty companies making bulbs but they are expensive. For the higher shutter speeds, the M3 are the ones to use.
