If you buy another ZX- or MZ- camera, unless it comes from a retailer (like KEH) who checks it out and maybe offers a guarantee, there is a high probability you will get another one with the same problem. It is a design flaw of this series.

I got a quote from Eric, $120 to replace the motor etc. Which is about what I'd found elsewhere. All I really want is to have it in working condition since I am upgrading to either a K7 or K20. I just wish more people used film, there's something to be said for not knowing what exactly you have until you get the prints back.

Strictly speaking, I shouldn't have called this a design flaw - it's more like a materials flaw. If you get Eric to fix it, I'm pretty sure his replacement motor won't have the plastic gear, and so will last much, much longer than the original.

So if you like the camera and plan to keep it and use it after your digital purchase, it might be worth the repair.
