the program series...

anyone still using their super program or program plus film SLR?

just wanted any feedback from anyone who still uses these classic cameras. my program plus is about 20 years old, and it still works brand new. It was overhauled about 8 years ago, hence the mint operating condition.

thanks,

mark

I used my SuperProgram last year- it delivered amazing pictures

The viewfinder is huge, and it makes focusing very easy. Plus, the added P mode makes taking pictures so much easier! IMO this is the best classic Pentax body.

I recently bought a winder for it, too, so I'll post about that soon.

I think the KX is one of the best. Can't beat match needle metering.

The KX and K1000 are nice manual models, yeah...

The K1000 was my first Pentax, also

I agree. I've used my father's KX for the past few years with some really good results. Love the matching meter system.

I still use my SFX (colour film) and my P30n (with black and white)...

No that often though.. maybe only a roll in each 2-3 times a year at the moment..

Don't own a p-series though... I was going to buy a super-p a few years back but got a new (very old stock) SFX very cheap...

Used my Super A constantly, until I bought my D. Now it is my back up. Love the camera so much, the A is the third of 3. I had 2 Super Program bodies fry their boards, got cheaper to replace the bodies, instead of repair.

Excellent Camera, especially mated up to the Motor A.

I started off on a Program-A - what a great camera!!! I loved the aperture priority and manual modes - all you really needed. It was very easy to switch on, and I could do everything my feel. Taken some great photos with it.

Unfortunately first Program mode died (no big deal), then half of Aperture priority - from f/22-f/8 (still used it, didn't mind), then Manual went (irritating for the 5% exposure that needed more than +2 compensation!), and then it started under-exposing every other frame

Then I used a Super-A for about two years - very nice camera, though I didn't really find it any different to the Program-A (except it worked!).

Now using an LX - oh yes...

Duncan.

Still have my SuperProgram

I got my SuperProgram new in 1986. Still have it.

It was my workhorse for 20 years and performed great. Lately the A setting on the lenses seems to act a little strange (not limited to any one lens) so the metering was occasionally erratic (loose connection or something) but I have no complaints. It was (and is) a great camera, and the slight metering problem was enough to convince my wife that I needed my new DS2.

I got two lenses at the time with it. SMC-A 35-70 and SMC-A 70-210 f4
I still use the 70-210 with my DS and it is fantastic.

using super program

Hi, I still keep a roll of film in my super progam, and use it once in a while. I think I bought it in about 83 and it still works great, takes awesome pics. At the time I bought the camera I also bought an A 50mm 1.7 and an A 28mm 2.8 and an A 35/105 f3.5 zoom. That zoom is on my DS2 most of the time , a highly under rated lens. For outside pics in good light its absolutely great, image quality is miles ahead of the kit lens,18/55. I usually keep the 50mm on the super program all the time . ken

Hi,

I'm still using my Super A (super program). Got it in 1984 - it's needed one repair when the "stand-off" on the film advance lever broke and a bit of it jammed the mechanism. This was in 2000 - I took it to a small camera repair shop in Bristol, where they managed to find a spare part. I use it and my *ist about equally.

Cheers,
Jon.

Still have my first and second Super Programs, new in /82 or 3, and used in /86. I have not used them much lately but my kid's school used them in the photo class. I generally use my Z-1p if I shoot film.

I've been using a SuiperProgram since the 1980's. It was my workhorse until my wife convinced me to get a Z-1 to speed up my working time. I still like the SuperProgram for its size (even with an added winder) and reliability.

Both of them are currently taking a back seat to the new-fangled DSLR (*ist D), but every time I run film through them, I wonder why I don't use them mopre often. Especially if I have to take extremely wide shots. It's the qualkity levels of these film SLRs that keeps my lens purchases restricted to those that will work well in both formats.

My Super Program camera rewind lever does not make contact with the spool that feeds the film. Is this an easy problem to correct? Can you suggest a Pentax repair site to which I might send the camera for repairs (and if so do you have the e-mail or website address?)

Thanks

I used a Super A (Super Program) for many years as the scond body/backup to the LX. It tends to get less use now as I have a second LX body.
