mirror problem with pentax spotmatic

I'm having a problem with the mirror in my SP 2; it is locked in the up position. I can release it to go down, but it has no action. everything looks clean and it seems as though its hardly been used. I've replaced the battery and checked everything I could imagine. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. i feel as though it should be something minor.

What do you mean by 'it has no action'? Does it lock up again after you fire the shutter? You might want a repairman to take a look.

it doesn't lock down, only up. I can get it to go down - it doesn't stay.
I've repaired a number of camera's - not saying I'm a pro, just that I'm not scared to get in there - if anyone can give me some ideas.

In that case, I really don't know. Perhaps a spring broke? I hope others will be able to give you some pointers
