Asahi-Pentax 1958

large size available by clicking on image & following flikcr instructions.

I'll be scanning the article soon - this issue of Modern had two huge new cameras - the Asahi Pentax and the new Hasselblad

Great, thanks! But I'm missing the tagline of that advert. It was:

"Hey Dad... I never saw a camera do that before!" (referring to the quick-return mirror). Maybe this was a different advert, but Danilo Cecchi's book about Pentax shows the version with the tagline).

Yes, I remember that one... I don't know why this one doesn't have the whole thing, unless it is the first in a planned series --- Anyhow, the camera 'review' itself is interesting in this issue.

These are great! Enjoyed looking through your Flickr stream at the ads and brochures. I remember the days of the Adorama and B&H mail order ads in the back of Popular Photography. Thanks for sharing.

$195 was a lot of money in 1958 - several weeks pay for most working people.
At close to $500 the Hasselblad was a camera for the rich or professional only.

It's cool to see the ad...thanks! Too bad they don't still make them like that. I'm a little puzzled with the kids pic in the ad....it looks like he got into dad's liquor cabinet or something.....

I can't make it out for sure in the scans, but it looks like one of those AP's has the 55mm Tak and the one on the second page has the 58mm.

In the review it is the 55mm, serial number 100010
I can't quite make out what's on the black AP, though it is a f/2 - a single digit f number
