Cool, so now I know the go-to person to send in a film slr that needs some repair/CLA work whenever I buy a film camera online that's in need of some repairs.

Stick with Pentax

Eric prefers to service Pentax film SLRs and lenses he has/can source parts for.
Recently he serviced a Ricoh K-mount SLR for me but on a best-effort-only basis.

Has anyone here sent their lenses to Eric? More specifically, Super-Takumar lenses? I have an 8 element 50/1.4 which has some haze etc. If so, I'd love to hear your experience. Thanks.

Yes, Eric has serviced some Super Takumar lenses for me, and does an excellent job. If your 50 has yellowed from radioactive elements he won't try to "de-yellow" it, but that can be done by exposing it to UV light to clear it.

My 50 is one of the early ones, before they used the radioactive coatings so it hasn't yellowed. But it does have some haze and dust in there. Thanks for the info, I will try to get in touch with him via email.

He repaired an m-series lens for me a few years ago. It had some issues with oil on the blades keeping the aperture settings from working correctly. His work was perfect on it. Came back in good as new condition. I use it all the time and have had zero issues with it since his repair.

Eric has serviced a Pentax SL, 3 Pentax ESII bodies, and a number of Pentax lenses mostly SMC types.

I bought a Carl Zeiss Jenna 50mm f/2.8 Tessar M42 lens that the diaphragm would not stop down. He repaired on a best effort basis and now it work perfectly

Right now he has my Pentax 6x7 MLU body with TTL meter prism that is in seriously bad shape but I'm sure it will be perfect when I get it back.

I bought 3 'parts' ESII bodies off of Bay with the hope that Eric could get 2 working bodies out of the three. Nope, he did not get two working bodies. He was able to fix all three!!!!!!!!!! The third body I mailed to my brother as a surprise gift.

I like the ESII as it uses SILVER oxide batteries that are easily available as opposed to the old 1.35v mercury that most Spotmactics used.

He states on the website he services 24mm - 500mm lenses.

For me has has serviced:
CLA'ed several Auto Tak lenses that the grease had dried out on (1950's lenses)
K28/3.5 - adjusted colimation for infinity focus
K50/1.2 - removed a small impact mark in the focusing ring that caused a noticeable hitch when focusing
Vivitar Series 1 105/2.5 replaced sheared 'A' locking pin (I supplied the replacement part from an ebay donor lens)
Takumar 500/4.5 - dismantled and repaired. Multiple fasteners had worked loose inside the lens over the 40 years it had been used.

Thanks all for sharing your experience with me.

Just a quick question - what's the etiquette with sending gear to Eric? I ask because I sent him an email about a week ago with no reply. Am I best to be patient and wait it out, or am I ok just to ship it with instructions?

Eric is very busy. And it's the Christmas season. I'd give him another week then ping him again. If you do decide to just ship to him, make sure you enclose a letter stating clearly what is wrong and what you would like him to do. Include your contact info -email and phone. Pack the items well & ship via the Post Office to his new address:

Eric Hendrickson
PO Box 70612
Knoxville, TN 37938

Good luck!

What have you had repaired by Eric Hendrickson?

I received from Eric in the mail this week a spotless black MX that had dim LED's. Eric diagnosed the problem (the LED Ass'y screws had either come loose or someone had been inside the camera), repaired and CLA'ed it and now it is like brand new.

I now have a drawer full of Pentax cameras Eric has repaired - 4 KX, 2 MX, 2 K2, a SUPERPROGRAM, MESuper, SV, LX, and a few more that I have sold (my M42's and a KM now used by the daughter of a member). I won't even start on the lenses.

Hope I answered your questions via my emails. I get so busy sometimes. 15 emails a day on three different accounts and I might miss one which bothers me. Take care,
Eric

He's working on two of my LXs currently -- maybe they're sitting on that roll top desk right now!
