Bad Day at the Factory: A "HLILAND PENTAX" H3

When I saw this camera on Ebay a little while ago I couldn't resist pulling the trigger on it, even though I don't collect film cameras (although I have still managed to accumulate a few from my lens purchases). It is a Heiland Pentax H3 in beautiful shape, but with one very interesting feature. Heiland was of course the division of Honeywell that sold the Asahi Pentax cameras in the USA. But have you ever seen not a "HEILAND"; but a "HLILAND"? Yes, it must have been an off day at the factory that the front prism housing got stamped thusly; a somewhat easy mistake as an L is just missing 2 bars from an E.

Has anyone seen another misspelled Heiland like this? I imagine that these parts would have been made in runs, so I would expect others to exist. In a way I'm surprised they allowed the cameras to be sold, but perhaps it was found out to late (I somehow imagine the Heiland people opening a shipment to their horror ).

Heh. My father told me of days when companies tried to hide it if something wasn't 'made in USA.'

My old man wouldn't buy anything made in Japan.
He was on a destroyer in the Pacific in WWII.
