Love that shot BuilttoSpill. Such a "trusting" look on that little girl's face.
Thank you for the compliment.

I bought myself a K1000 a few months ago after taking a photography class in highschool. I absolutely love this camera! I've shot through two rolls of film, just need to develop them now :P

I'm also a huge fan of this camera. Bought one last year when I found myself with a shoot scheduled and both my 35mm bodies in the shop. A quick spin by craigslist and I picked one up for $30 or so. It's been just a pleasure to shoot:

Aw, yay! I got an e-mail notification about this thread and was happy to come back and read the "K1000 Manifesto" again
Just, EVERYTHING you said. I can't get film done anymore and had to get a digital. I got a K-x because the lenses fit. It's been good and has facilitated some really fun hobby photography as well as some journalism work. But I still miss using the lovely simple organic K1000.
All the buttons, which setting did you have it on, which ones do you have to change, etc. etc. ... thinking about the camera rather than the picture... YES.
And the light-up screen of a digital, that you have to keep turning off if you're shooting in the dark, or it messes up your night vision... annoying! I loved being able to set the K1000 by counting clicks of aperture or speed dials.

I have missed composition booboos and crooked horizons and other things that I feel I never would've missed with the K1000, because I was fiddling with buttons and menus. I do have to admit to missing some shots because I missed focus with the K1000, or took too long to do it. But it's a wonderful relic of what to me feels like a golden age of photography when you had to really know what you were doing. I'll forever be thankful for having learned "real photography" on it, and thus having to understand how light and exposure work.

I've met a number of tourists who've commented that they don't know how their camera works so they either don't use it or leave it on automatic all the time. And when I used to sell framed prints at a market, it always made me laugh when non-photographers said "You must have a really great camera." I always said, "Yes, I do."

Best camera ever made, as a good friend who is gone now said.

So I’m not sure if I am reviving a dead-old thread here but I simply love my K-1000 cameras. I currently have four and I am getting one more soon.

My very first camera I bought when I started my work life was a K-1000.

I simply love them!
