How often should I service my LX?

Simple question really...

How often should I get my LX serviced, assuming that it's in constant, if not heavy, use?

Cheers, Nick

You need to check the foam around the mirror. Once it starts to deteriorate, you should get the camera serviced- but I'd say the LX is good for 10 if not 15 years.

Sorry, I probably should have been clearer...

I've just bought an LX which has been recently CLA'd, so it should be fine for now. I was more wondering if you should do periodical servicing (say every 3-5 years), or just wait till something starts to play up?

If you use it regularly it will develop problema a lot slower than if it is sitting on a shelf.
I guess 10-15 yrs is a normal service time for this machines unless thay develop a fault.

titrisol and Adam are correct. The biggest problem with these is when they sit around. If you use the camera regularly (at least once a month) then the camera should be good for 10+ years.

Unfortunately, by then if it needs parts, they will be tough to find. Certain things are near impossible to find now.

According to "my" Pentax service guy (done it for over 30 years) an LX should never be serviced unless it develops a problem. If the camera has been through a CLA, or is of a newer vintage, then the resistors are replaced with gold types. This means that the camera do not need regular workout either.
