Lately, my MX has been acting rather odd, with a stiff or mushy shutter release. Well finally today, after taking a picture with it, the shutter button remained down and the wind lever doesn't move. The mirror is also in the viewing position. Any help?

Hello,

I had a similar problem with a very cheap ($35) example off e-bay. I took the top cover off (an exercise in itself, especially if the camera is a treasured possession), and found that a metal tab, part of the wind mechanism, had somehow become bent down, and was fouling the plate that the shutter release acts upon. After bending the tab back up to what looked like a logical position, 'hey presto', the shutter fires reliably. No idea why the fault occurred, and you may wish to hear other replies before embarking on a particular course of action.

I would like to see if there's a different choice, specially since its a bit of a prized camera.

You might take it to a local repair shop or send it to Eric Hendrickson in Tennessee. Eric does an excellent job and has reasonable rates. Here is a link to his Web site:
