Urgent LX help!

Hi everyone, I have an issue with my LX. There is no film in the camera, and due to symptom #1, I cannot load film into the camera.

These are the symptoms:

- Film advance will not move: as if the film has already been advanced.
- Orange film-advance dot is clear: ie. film has not been advanced.
- Mirror is in the 'up' position.
- When a lens is attached, the aperture is stopped down.
- When looking through the viewfinder, I can see one of the lower yellow LED's lit up.
- By removing the lens or opening the back, I can see that the shutter curtain is CLOSED.

I have tried:

- Moving the shutter dial from Auto to a variety of manual speeds. Nothing.
- Changed the ISO to 800 and pointed directly at a light source. Nothing.
- Checked that the MLU lever is not on. It's not.
- Attempted to trigger the shutter with a cable release. Nothing.
- Replacing batteries to brand new ones. No change.
- Attaching different lenses. No change.

The body was CLA'd by Eric 18 months ago, including new mirror stops, so I doubt its sticky mirror...

Any suggestions?

Cheers, Nick

So the shutter isn't open, yet the mirror is up? Obviously, the rest of the systems won't start working until it comes down. Have you tried setting your shutter dial to Bulb and pressing the shutter button in hopes of having this fix the problem?

Yep I've tried pressing the shutter button while in Bulb. Nothing...

**Update** Overnight the camera has clearly drained the batteries and the light-meter (which wouldn't turn off before) is now dead. The mirror is still up though...

When was the last time it was cleaned and serviced? It might be over due. Slow shutters and mirror sticking are a LX trait. Just asking.

Hi Phil, as I mentioned in the OP, the body was CLA'd by Eric about 18months ago, including new mirror stops...

Sorry I missed that and I just stated the more obvious. Possibly a call to Eric as you are a customer would help. The 18 months should be fine. I had mine serviced by Pentax in Colorado some years ago after sticking on my two bodies and the one I still have is working fine though I don't use it much. Good luck with it.

I'd be curious to know the failure in the LX when you get it back from Eric, just for information. Thanks
