The Spotmatic II was released in 1971, along with the introduction of the S-M-C line of Takumar lenses. The meter and film transport was improved from the original Spotmatic, a hotshoe was now included and the ISO range was increased to 3200. There were a number of 'Motor Drive' editions produced by Pentax beginning in 1969 with the original Spotmatic and ending with the ES II in 1975.
The SP II Motor Drive System was offered in 2 different packages. The 'Set 36' consisted of the Spotmatic II camera which had been modified to accept the motor drive system, a SMC Takumar 50/1.4, the motor drive unit, the battery grip and a battery loader for AA batteries. The 'Set 250' consisted of the Set 36, plus a bulk film magazine capable of accepting 250 exposure bulk film.
