Pentax S (Tower 26)

The first 35mm Pentax SLR with pentaprism, the 'AP' model, was soon followed by the 'S' model. The Asahi Pentax S was introduced in April 1958 and discontinued in May 1959. Differences between the Asahi Pentax 'AP' and the Asahi Pentax S include the progression of shutter speeds, with the Asahi Pentax S featuring the modern progression of speeds, and a different film reminder dial. The Asahi Pentax S was available in either satin chrome or black finish. The Asahi Pentax S is recognizable in that it bears the model designation 'S' below the serial number. Some source cite a total production of between less than 4,000 units to about 4,400 units. The standard lenses for the Asahi Pentax S were the 55mm f/2.2 Takumar or the 55mm f/1.8 Takumar in Pentacon/Pentax M42x1 screw mount.
