I doubt it. Since Eric Hendrickson is still Putting K1000's in like new condition, those ought to be good for another 20 years at least.

I've got two!

One's a plain K1000 that my dad bought in 1977 (it's a Made-in-Japan! ), and which he took on a road trip across to country the month after (supposedly he's still got the slides he took on that trip... but I haven't seen them yet. I'm dying to though!) It's the camera that I learned photography on.

The other's an SE in brown leather that I got as a gift from relatives.

Both work beautifully and I love both to death, but I like my dad's K1000 more because A) it's my father's camera and B) it feels better to me--particularly in advancing the film--because it's been much more loved over its life than the SE. (I suppose I'm one of those people who feel that brassing adds character!) But the SE has the split-image screen that makes focusing much easier...

I need to get both CLA'd... I doubt either have ever seen a service center...

Doesn't everyone have one?

I have one too, ME Super was my SLR of choice for many years but the K1000 was the camera that was ALWAYS in an extra bag waiting to be called on when the ME's batteries died. More than several times I have re-wound a roll to the leader, capped the K1000 snapped through the exposures and finished up a roll. It now resides in my camera cabinet, body cap on and battery out The K10D has taken the primary lead. With an 8G card I can capture over 1600 images. When my kids get old enough in the next couple of years I will put the K1000 back in service. I think a budding photographer can learn a great deal about exposure and aperture using a K1000.

Got mine at noon yesterday. All metal, but Hong Kong (sticker still on the base plate). Whipped up to Radio Shack, got a battery, put it in, loaded some film (Kodak Gold 200, hangs head, kicks a rock).

Got home with the battery, it started raining. As they say on TV:
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE
An absolutely gorgeous New Mexico sunrise this morning. Rainbow in the west. Gotta finish the roll and get it on a CD. See what I have here.

Hope to add K1000 Proud Owner tag to my signature shortly.
I also have a K100D Super, but don't tell anyone.

here is mine with a fresh roll of Ilford HP5 loaded.(I know mine has been shown here before) I just replaced the loose rewind lever with one from a defunct MG (that's an MX in the background.) now my K1000 has two mods. I was getting ready to take it out but I just heard thunder... and well we all know what that means.

What a sexy beast you have there. How did you get to have green leather?

As for thunder, here in Southern Cali, not a cloud in the sky. I will be hunting this afternoon.

thanks, I do love it so. I purchased this K1000 with the leather 'Spring Green' goat leather (its not actually as 'lime' green as that, just the lighting.) but the leather is from Cameraleather - leather kits for Pentax SLR's I have purchased one for my MX, its actually quite an easy modification. It will get your camera noticed that's for sure.

I just sent my first roll of film off. I can't wait to see the pictures. Took two rolls of black and whites yesterday. Having fun with film again.

I just got a SE that I found VERY cheap and I mainly got it because it had a TC on it plus for parts. I intended to get rid of it after I took off the TC, the parts I wanted and lens (-M 50mm f 2) but, since I was surprised to see the meter works, I may just put it up and someday send it to Eric for a CLA and a new curtain. It would need to have both before using it.
