Well, quick answer is, don't touch the mirror, for starters: the silvering is on the face of it and it's quite delicate. Besides, if you can see it when looking through the finder, it's much more likely to be on the focusing screen. A rocket blower can probably get that out of your way with a little fussing.

What she said, but adding to not touch the focus screen either. The screen is also very delicate and easy to damage. A manual blower is the best tool for the job. Don't use canned air. If you can't get it clean with the blower, take it to the shop. They can do a wet cleaning using materials that will not harm the mirror or the focus screen.

I attach a large soft drink straw to a vacuum cleaner. It works much better. I also examine the surface with a magnifier to locate the dust particle.

When I worked in camera repair at Olympus in the mid-1980's we cleaned SLR mirrors with wadded up lens tissue and Freon TF.

Dire warnings that the mirror can never, ever be touched are slightly overstated. Regular cleaning is not recommended, but the
occasional fingerprint can be gently cleaned with a soft lens tissue and a little breath fog, or a drop of lens cleaner if badly soiled.
That said the coating on the mirror is very soft and easily scratched, so a good deal of care must be exercised when cleaning it.

The focus screen on most modern SLRs is plastic. Dust can be removed with a blower or carefully with a soft brush if necessary.
Liquid cleaners will only make it worse and may ruin the screen. A badly soiled screen should be professionally cleaned.
