Same here. The case was generally about $15-$25 extra and everybody bought one. Those cases are one reason why there are so many cosmetically pristine 40 year-old cameras out there!

My straps came boxed with the cameras

...though I suspect it varied by brand. All of my rangefinder cases have straps or provision for straps. I have seen some SLR cases with them as well. Then there is my Zorki 4K...no strap lugs on the camera. If you need a strap, you were expected to buy and use the case. Strangely the top half of the case is not removable so you can imagine what a pain it is when using a hood or longer lens.

I've got a MX accessories manual, and in the USA this sort of case was not shown. Maybe they sold this style case in e.g. Asia
thats very possible, different region gets different soft case, also mx have two version, one with metal memo holder and other with plastic, this one came with plastic memo holder (early 80's)

if the ad he saw was the pentax girl it would be asia, those were great ads

huh, I would like to see said ads. the only ‘Pentax girl’ I know of is the one from the 60’s and she carried a spotmatic. had pigtails. I have some of the commercials saved from youtube. anyone have a link or something for me to see? id be interested to find a sales brochure from aisa, this case is quite intriguing to be honest!
i ment was, i saw a snapshot from internet, definately not an ad
but she had the same soft case with mine..

I just got this special “long nose” Pentax everyready case on eBay, that will let you cover a short telephoto lens. I’m looking forward to trying it out.

Thanks, for sharing those. There's something about old ads before ad execs figured out how to market to us that I find...well just charming.

Thanks for posting this. I recall doing the same thing in 1981.
