I'm slightly near-sighted; can I customize my 35mm pentax?

I am nearsighted slightly--lowest prescription: -1 in each eye; this is the extent of my eyeglass prescription. I am wondering if there is a way I can correct or compensate for this by customizing my camera viewfinder lens? I read something about "custom diopter"; don't know what that is.

It depends upon the camera. Most of the older bodies had diopter lenses you could buy. The newer ones, and the 645, had a dial or slider you can adjust. The LX had an adjustment screw on the viewfinder, but you had to slide it out.

I am a -1.5, and I just wear my contacts when shooting.

Most older SLR fixed viewfinders are approximately -1.0 diopters equivalent without correction.
I too am slightly nearsighted and use a -1.0 or -2.0 correction eyepiece when available.
