Should I get this Asahi Pentax KM serviced?

It would cost me around $70 for CLA + mirror bumper foam + light seals replaced. The camera is very clean.. doesn't look mint, but pretty nice--not too used. It doesn't have any dings just a little slight brassing and a few scuffs (mostly on bottom). How much could I sell it for after it is serviced?

I have a K2 I am definitely getting serviced (CLA+mirror+seals) which looks MINT.. brand spanking new. I imagine I could sell it for $200 in the condition it's in, after serviced.

You may make a profit, you might not. In general, while we dream of and sometimes get the amazing windfall (like you anticipate with the K2), Pentaxes in general aren't 'collectable' like Leicas or esoterica.

Getting the CLA done is good if you plan to use the camera. The usual idea with used cameras is that we restore or otherwise love them, we use them, and when we sell we don't lose a ton of money and might even make a little...

If you are doing this for the investment / resale, look at ebay for a while, and research the finished auctions, for pentax cameras. You'll get an idea of what a CLA and good cosmetics are worth.

The KM is the silver and black one and it isn't mint. it's like a 8.5 of 10, 10 being mint. the k2 I have--silver and black also--is like a 9.75/10.

Looking at cameras that have been CLAd on EBay, it appears to me that the sellers struggle to get the cost of the CLA back unless the camera is a collectible.

I would get a CLA if you are planning to use the camera as it is no fun using an unreliable one. If you are just planning to sell it on, just sell it on. I doubt you'll make back what you spent.

It's fun to imagine, but check eBay Completed Auctions for real world selling prices.

At one time several years ago I sold a bunch of CLA'ed KX's and Spotmatics for $189 - $199. That would never happen today.
