Canon AE-1, Mamiya 645J, Mamiya C220F, Pentax ProgramA, which I've never used, but it seems to work OK. Got it attached to a 50mm 1.7

I figured I'd join the party. These cameras I still use and post shots regularly from them and are not just collecting dust!
  • Hasselblad 500C/M
  • Mamiya 7II Rangefinder
  • Pentax 67
This is used periodically and recently I have posted a few from it with a renewed interest.
  • Wisner 4x5 Technical Field
These just collect dust. Too many cameras to shoot them all when you take into account I also have digital cameras I shoot.
  • Spotmatic F
  • ME Super SE
  • K1000
  • Rolleicord IV
  • Holga 120N

Pentax MX * 2
Pentax Me Super * 2

Not really sure why I have two of each. They just have such good prices it seemed rude not to.

Pentax ME (mine)
Pentax SP1000 (belongs to the GF, but I tend to use it)
Canon EOS something rather (GF's old camera)
Canon EOS something rather but the better model than the other something rather (GF's dad's old camera)

I love using the ME, the SP is great as well.

The Canon's I've never put a roll of film into, and I'm not sure I'll bother. They just feel so plastic and fragile, almost like a kid's toy.

Tuco, I was noticing you have a couple 35mms and don't know that I've ever seen you post anything from them. I note your comment that they are "gathering dust", but I was just wondering if you ever shot 35mm after you made the jump to medium format?

I don't shoot 35mm film very much. I have a half exposed roll in the Spotmatic and ME Super for over a year now. I moved to MF about 20 years ago and looking back I guess there hasn't been too many rolls of 135 developed since then.

Funny, but it was buying the K5 that rekindled my love of old film cameras. Why? It made me realize how short lived modern cameras were as technology made them uneconomical to fix, or old tech parts were not to be found. Take a look at ebay and see how the bottom of the line K1000 is sought after while all the automatics that followed it have few or no bids. After the eighties started, plastic also started in both lenses and cameras. Fancy batteries were designed to run the automation, but now are hard if not impossible to find.

I love the feel of a solid Pentax KM, or MX. (I have three of these including the one I bought when they first came out)and K1000. The Spotmatic (two of those) is still a seller. I might add the Minolta SR 102 (Super) is another heavy solid manual camera which is a joy to hold. (three of those) I have the ME Super and Program A as well, but I am still happier with the full manual machines. That brings me to another of my favourites; The German Retinettes and Retinas. My very first camera was a Retinette 1A bought in 1961. I now have a collection of these delightful jewels.
Let me not forget the Yashica Lynx 5000 rangefinder which I bought new in 1969; after a CLA it is running like new again
For me, the Kodachrome slide was the measure. What you clicked, was what was forever etched into the slide. No getting away with cropping to get your composition, or making up for poor exposure. That was when the photograph didn't lie.
Now, what we have is more image-making and less photographing. I like the challenge of thinking my shot and making it count, rather than firing 7fps and hoping for the best, knowing that you will be bailed out of focus and exposure errors.
In fifty years, I doubt today's cameras will be around in use, but have no doubt you will still see old Spotmatics and Retinas in use just as they are today. Like old mechanical watches, they will only be owned by a few who are able to appreciate their qualities. They have souls those old machines, even if in practical terms they have long since fallen by the wayside.

The functional ones: ME Super SE (although it needs new mirror foam and the metering is off...), Super Program, K1000, an Exa (with CZJ Tessar 50 f/3.5), and Canon Demi.

The ME Super is what is used for BW, the Super Progam is for color, the K1000 is just because every Pentaxian should own one, the Exa just because it is cool and has a waist level finder, and the Canon Demi because it is a rare white version and 1/2 frame format is pretty cool.

Some camera porn here, with photos of some of my classic SLRs with standard lenses. Cross-posted to the DA ltd thread as they were taken with my DA35 macro.

no more m42 bodies.
my only pentax body is an ME Super i got from KEH. i got it because i fell in love with an smc pentax-m 50/1.4 converted for use on my bessa r2m. i will get an unmodified 50/1.4 to use on the super when i can find a nice one. as for now it sports an smc pentax-m 50/2, which is a stinking nice little lens, especially for $14. a little more contrasty than the 50/1.4 at wider apertures.
also have: bessa r2m, olympus om-1n and om-1, zeiss ikon folder in 120, and a couple of nikon point-and-shoots.

I m admiring the KX, since I have it's less expensive siblings the KM and K1000. How well does it operate without batteries, and what type are they?
