Old Super ME

Hey all, I found this old Super ME in the basement, about 23 years old.

Well, it doesn't work, the thing is that the shutter-mirror appears to be "stuck up"... and the rewinding unit seems to be disfunctional, that is .. when you turn it, it does not "grip"..

I hope I made myself clear, hard writing this in English when I cant find the right words for it in Icelandic

Am I better off buying a used one off eBay or is this a small problem?

Jonas

Here is a link to a site that I have found useful in troubleshooting my ME Super.

The link will tell you how to "reset" the camera. That may or may not work, but it's worth a try. The truth is things get a little gummy after they sit around for 23 years. It probably needs a good CLA (clean, lube, adjust) to get everything working like new.

They are fun little cameras and well worth the effort of fixing in my opinion.

Many cameras on ebay have similar problems. It is just what happens to mechanical things after a while. It is certainly possible to replace the mirror foam, which will likely help the sticky mirror problem. It sounds like a clean-lube-adjust service is in order, which is something a professional can do. You could ask at a local camera store, or I'm sure there are places in the EU you can send it. Not sure about Iceland...

Brilliant - I will dissect my Super ME this week - and if everything goes... well... not the way it's supposed to.. then it's off to the workshop

Well, you did mention about the rotting foam! I had intended on mentioning that, but forgot.

I picked up a light seal kit on ebay for not much money that worked really well to replace the foam and other light seals. It's a pretty simple job. Here is a "how to".
