Spotmatic Replacement Battery

Hi All!

I've gotten, over the last few months several Spotmatics, does anyone know what battery can be used? I've found a couple of "rubber washer like" rings around the batteries but cannot tell Voltage or even any info on battery. Another one had a battery labeled 400 (no ring)...

The rings fit round a 394 silver cell. also known as 380 or SR936SW. Just reuse the rings

The 400 comes from the original number PX400. These were shaped. The replacement is the S400PX but don't waste your money. They are just 394 ready fitted with the collar.

Thanks! There are so many numbers going around the WWW, I'll try these out. Any replacement for the ones w/o the rings?

Nope! I have used the small silver cells without the rings just as well. The original batteries were shaped like that because of the way they were made. A bit like a small version of the 625.

It's a UK site but there is more information here with pictures of the different solutions.
MRB400 WeinCell non-mercury replacement for PX400 EPX400 RM400 H-B V400PX E400N PM400R KX400 T400N.

As far as Pentax is concerned, forget the mercury/silver voltage debate. The Spotmatics and indeed the clip on meters rather unuasally used a balanced bridge type circuit. In this the meter registers the difference between the two side of the bridgerather than being dependant purely on voltage. The correct exposure is when there is no difference ie the needle is in the middle. As the battery supplies the same voltage to both sides of the bridge, a small difference in battery voltage makes no practicable difference.
