MZ60 battery Question

G'day from Perth Australia folks.

Just picked up an MZ60 to replace a Minolta X300 - I've been loyal to Minolta for years but wanted to go full auto and everything i read is that Pentax is way better quality.

I was just wondering if there is an alternative (nicad/nimh maybe) to the lithium batteries in the MZ60.
I plan on using this camera a fair bit but $10 each for batteries could start to hurt with what I make as a student.
