Help! I can't get the film out of my ME!

I just finished up the first roll of film that I've used since I got my ME several weeks ago. As I was rewinding, the dial (the piece with the handle that pops up) that you pull up to open the back to get the film out fell off. I can't figure out how to get it back on to finish rewinding so I can get the film out.

Is this something I can fix myself or am I going to have to find a camera repair shop to fix it?

If you can you could use a fine pair of needle nose pliers to grip the shaft, rewind it, and then use it to pull the shaft upwards triggering the release.

I would suggest whatever you do, do it in a darkened room just in case the back pops open before you get the roll rewound, otherwise you might fog the film.

I did manage to get my ME fixed, thanks to a tool in my manicure kit. It has 2 prongs on the end, but I have no idea what the thing is called. I used it to pull up the the shaft high enough so I could screw the winder handle back on and finish rewinding my film.

BTW, I got the roll developed and most of the pics turned out pretty decently.

Thanks for the help!

Heather has discovered the first good use of a manicure kit

I hope that you post 1 or 2 pictures Heather.
