Meter "Repair" on a Pentax MX

I just managed to fix an issue I was having with the MX meter, so I detailed it in a blog post, in hopes that it might actually help someone in the future.

My MX meter has been intermittent for all the time I have owned it. (7 years)
Guess I have no excuse now but to fix it....

Intermittency is a 'good problem to have:' it most likely means no more than a bad connection.

Yes, though intermittent faults always encourage me to temporary repair by 'percussive maintenance '... ... and because that is often successful I don't get around to a proper fix.

When things downright don't work then I am quick to reach for the tools and go hunting for smoke.

Todd -

Well, I thought you had found the answer to my MX problem, but.... My meter works fine, but the button cells are drained within a week or so. This problem surfaced after I'd used the camera for several years; an Atlanta area shop tried twice to fix it. I ran across Todd's fix a year or so ago, but checking with a VOM shows that the contacts open and close properly.

Any MX users out there have any other ideas, or do I send it to Eric, The Pentax Man?

I believe Pentax recently brought that procedure back for the shutter on the K-5.

The fix works!

You've just made it possible for me to fix the last functional fault on my chrome MX! Not a bad return on a $30 ebay purchase. Good instructions, well done!

Thanks for the great guide Todd! my newly acquired MX seems to be chewing through power so this might just solve the problem.
