Check with local authorities first. I think it is OK in the US, not sure elsewhere...

Probably legal, but I don't know it it's ethical or wise. You will arouse great gear-lust among visitors. Best just to keep it in a dark closet.

NOTE: Right now I have many display cabinets filled with ethnic crafts but only part of a cabinet with cameras. That must change. A shelf for Brownies; another for other Kodaks. A shelf for MF TLRs; another for folders. A shelf for Praktica. A shelf for Pentax. A shelf for Argus. Everything nicely spotlit. Right.

The problem is this: the ME is a tiny camera. It can get lost on that shelf all by itself. You need at least 4 more film cameras to put on both sides, sort of a cinerama display with the ME as the centerpiece. Then it will be OK.

I note from your profile that you are in England.
You are not allowed to have a camera on display if there is any possibility of it taking a picture of someone without their knowledge or consent from where it is sitting.
This makes it very unwise to display a camera anywhere in England..

Where they are targeted by enraged cue-swingers?
