What's your preferred consumer grade film?

I shoot mostly b/w, because it's easy to scan, print and I can develop it myself. I have some rolls of Agfa APX100, which is one of the best films, but usually I shoot Lucky SHD100, because it's very cheap.

The cheapest 200/400 iso film I can find at any given time. That's what I shoot. Usually it's Fuji, Kodak, CVS or Walgreen's film because that's what I can find around here. I wish I could afford better film but it's simply not in the budget if I want to keep on shooting film. I usually can't afford shipping fees and whatnot so I seldom buy film online. I use expired film a lot too. So far I've only had a couple of rolls really come out bad on that score. Usually I keep my film in the fridge or freezer so I don't really have too many issues that way unless I happen to buy it expired in the first place.

I really don't have too many options for film and developing here though. Only Walmart sells anything better and mostly it's the drugstores, Walmart or Target for developing. We don't have a good film lab locally and getting chemicals means ordering them and paying a lot to get it all shipped so having a home lab isn't all that cost effective even if I wanted to go that route. I'm lucky if they even have black and white film in stock most places I go...

Here are a few samples of Fuji Superia Xtra 400. I was pleased with the results, shot with a Spotmatic SP II. S-M-C Tak 35mm F3.5. Shot probably at F8 or 11 since it was a bright sunny afternoon, and the Spottie only goes up to 1/1000 sec.

I have not shot film in more than ten years, not planning on it either.
My daughter has a B-day coming up and wants to try out film. So I am giving her my 1985 Program Plus with the SMC A 50 1.7.
Will see how she likes it.

It states made in USA, finished in mexico. On the end of the box "color film" is written in seven different languages.
Must be a case of one box for all the markets.

For a budget film I agree with this.

But for critical photos of people, Portra 400 trumps it handily.

Sort if a snapshots vs. portrait thing. Both are good.

Same here, except to my eye the Fuji emphasises the blues and Kodak

the yellows.

I use them both 50/50, a pack of 3 rolls at a time.

I don't know if Fuji Xtra 800 is the same as Superia, but it's not my fave. If it's
something you care about, Portra 800 would be a good choice, or Fuji 800z.

Hello all, My perferred film has $.75-1.00 on the box . most is OOD film obtained on Flee-Bay or in the cheep bin at Good- Willey's. Nearly all is purchased at a discount, but I DO accept donations to my freezer. That.s right friends! You no longer have to add to the landfill. Send your old no-longer-any-good film to me then rest assure, the film will spend its twilight time being of use! And yes , you will be green! (B&W and Color accepted) My cameras are equal opportunity picture takers.
