PZ-1p and DA*300 with F 1.7 TC

The picture needs some work but I thought I would throw this out for the fun of it. I am using my DA* 300 on my PZ-1p and even though it has no aperture ring on the lens the PZ-1p is capable of adjusting aperture in Hyper Program mode.

Took this shot of some birds drinking water from my leaky swamp cooler water line. This was done on Kodak UltraMax 400 shot at ISO 200 using the PZ-1p, the DA* 300 f/4 and the F 1.7 teleconverter. I was using my little Slik tripod and I was probably stretching its capability a little.

Yes, the image is a little soft. Do you remember what was the shutter speed approximately?

At the time I was playing around more than doing anything serious so unfortunately I do not remember what my exposure settings were. I will have to spend more time with this combination to see where the sweet spots are, if there are any at all. I think the lens focus was locked onto the brass water nut instead of the birds, and the depth of field was narrow enough that the birds themselves turned out a little soft. My technique certainly needs more work, but that is half the fun

Thats cool. What I find most interesting is the DA* 300 covers 35mm format without vignetting. Nice!

According to the link below, your 300/F4 was designed for full frame, it also says the DA 55-300 should work pretty well given enough light. I shall have to give it a go on my Z-1p!

DA300 on 35mm Cameras

That is good news. I haven't tried my DA 55-300 but I will have to give it a try. I can't think of any reason that it won't work since the DA300 does.

The link is certainly interesting and it gives me more things to try out.

I have been very happy with the DA*300 on my PZ-1P. It works great for the normal telephoto work. I have even tried using it on my K1000, but of course you have no control of the aperture. You only have shutter speed available to control your exposure. Based on my playing around it seems that the lens is always stopped down to f/22 while it is attached to the K1000, but I'll have to check further on this one to be sure. There are obviously better options with the K1000 but its' fun to explore. I have noticed no vignetting in my photos using either the PZ-1P or the K1000.

The two kit lenses DA18-55 and 55-300mm work very well on my MZ-6, vignetting only between 18-20mm. My MZ-6 was bought in 2004 and was 10 years younger than PZ-1p.
