I like this one a lot. The contrast between old and new.

Praktica

A few years ago I found this Praktica in a nice original leather case at a swap meet for under $20, and thought it would be something interesting to experiment with. Besides, I saw that it had a CZJ M42 lens that I could try on my K100DS. Just in the last few days I decided to dig it out of my resource pile and check it out. It is in excellent condition, and seems to work perfectly, so I decided to run a short length of Tri-X through it just to test it. Here is the camera and lens:

Praktica (1st version, but with coaxial flash sync, SN:003963 - rare?); CZJ "Red T" 58mm f2

And here are three pictures taken with the setup using my eyes as a meter (Sunny 16, but with no sun!); Kodak Tri-X @ ISO400, Rodinal 1+100, standard agitation/development; scanned on Epson V500.

Rotting pumpkin in the garden

Oak-tree bark

Parts of my Ham-Radio station

These pictures are nothing notable, but prove that the camera works! I have found it difficult to get much information about this first-model Praktica, especially with the coaxial flash socket. I suppose from what I can find that it was likely manufactured in 1949, especially with the low serial number.
