The urge to experiment is upon me again. Running low on HC-110, but with several bottles of Rodinal equivalent in the fridge, I decided it was time to figure out XP2 in Rodinal. I know I can get great results if I expose at ISO200 and develop in 1+100 Rodinal for one hour, but what about something quicker? Looking around I found a blog with examples of ISO200 in Rodinal 1+50 for 9 minutes (here) so I figured by halving the exposure for ISO400 I ought to increase the development by one third, ie 12 minutes. Well, I got a set of rather low contrast negatives, very suitable for scanning, but not so easy for wet prints. It needs more time, but that gets boring. I might try 1+25 for nine minutes next. Curiously, the film lost its characteristic purple base after being developed this way, which would make wet printing simpler.

Pentax SF1n, 50/1.4, X1 scans:

He is probably better described as a disco king (Travolta has nothing - nothing! - on him), and is one of the endless pieces of Lladro pottery with which my wife has populated this house.

In the meantime, I have discovered that my enabler, Jacques, at argentix.ca, can sell me a Legacy Pro version of HC-110 for one third the price of the original Kodak product. I bought up his entire stock and have all my digits crossed that it will work exactly as the good old syrup did.

Considering how half-frame would get double the exposures per toll, it really brings the price down on relatively expensive film.

For economy, the half-frame cameras are suited to using half-rolls of film. Seventy two shots is too many anyway. I want to see what I got before that. After splitting a roll you get 33 or so on each half.

I got 53 exposures on the 24 exposure roll I just shot, so you make a good point. Sometimes 12 exposure 35mm rolls show up on ebay fairly cheap. Those would be much more useful for shooting half frame than full frame -- though I would prefer as fine-grain film as possible for the smaller format.

Every now and then I remember that I have a Holga stashed away and dig it out. Shot most of this roll at a park, and managed to misjudge distance on about half of the frames.

Holga 120N.
Kodak T-Max 100.

Family snapshots

I took some family snapshots this past weekend and they all turned out really good. This is my favorite of the bunch.

The film is TMax 400 developed in some really tired D76 at 1+1. This was the 7th roll developed in this batch of D76 because I didn't realize that if you don't use it one shot, you need to either add replenisher or increase developing time. Well, I didn't do any of that. After I developed this roll, I decided to look up how many rolls a batch of D76 is good for. I'll be mixing it 1+3 and one shotting it from now on.

That's an excellent shot.

I like this one a lot. The bird gives it an unnerving walking dead feel.

Some shots taken at the local Saturday market with the K2 DMD, Agfa APX 100 and Cosina 19-35mm.

My Fuji GSW690III shutter broke last Fall. I picked up a new one of the same and I'm finally getting around testing it.

Two more B&W developed Fujicolor Superia with the same MD 50/1.2 + X700 ... no bokeh sought after here and a bit sharper (@ f/2 more than likely) ...
