Windows ME? I remember people who couldn't get SCSI working on ME when it was new...'
Well, it's like this, Eric. Some years ago - fifteen? - I was given this scanner by a professional photographer who had shifted entirely to digital. It's a dedicated slide / neg scanner with a genuine 2700 DPI resolution. Benq took Acer over, I believe. I was running Win ME back then. Anyway, I upped to XP and had a Pacific Image scanner off USB. It failed beyond economic repair so I tried to get SCSI working on XP to get the Acer going again. No chance! Well, it did, sort of. Never worked satisfactorily though, too many conflicts.
I'd since moved on to Win 7 and now, Win 10, and I have an Epson V600. But I'm disappointed with it on 35mm. It's fine on 6x6 though. I reinstated my old beige box and SCSI card as a standalone PC to run my Acer scanner, did a fresh install of ME and it works a treat. Looking at the website, I get the impression Hamrick (VueScan) do a SCSI driver for Win10.
Having said all that, I often copy 35mm with my Canon EOS 5D Mk:I and one of those Elicar-type slide copiers that were popular in the '70s and an adaptor ring, all balanced vertically on a lightbox with a cut-out piece of printed circuit board to mask the neg and the camera set to 'mirror lock-up' and using the remote trigger. The results are commensurate with the Acer scanner and I'm generally pleased with them. I'd prefer a camera which has a focus-finder arrangement on live view, mind. For 6x6 I copy with my Sony RX100D II which has the live view focus finder arrangement. Again, the results are commensurate (to my eye) with those off the V600. It just means I've to deploy a sturdy BENBO tripod and lightbox, but it's much quicker once I get set up.
Sorry for rambling. Got a bit carried away here!
