Hot catch!

I quake at posting here any longer, the quality is so good... so I'll go the opposite direction, with real grunge Oly XA2, Arista Premium 400 aka Tri-X, often shot at EI 800, and very approximately developed in HC-110 dil H, maybe something like 7 min but the developer was something like 24C.

Those are some ‘grunge‘ shots that make me think about NY. That ‘Wall Street‘ one for instance. That street sure has a basement.

That is some really fine light and shadow balance you made in that photo. The detail in the original must also be even more awesome. Great work. Regards

You did very well, technically and esthetically speaking! The photo gives me a "phoenix rising" kind of vibe, which I enjoy in these days of doom and gloom.

Why thanks.

A snap while exploring for new sand dune turf with my nephew on the Oregon Coast. A bright sunny day is the hardest to get interesting shots there. I took a couple rolls of scouting pictures for the next time I go. Hiking on those dunes can really be taxing when you hit soft sand.

Excellent. (: Makes me want to take a trip to Oregon.

Here's one from the first roll of film I've shot in nearly 10 years:

Pentax MX, 50mm ƒ1.4, Tri-X 400, scanned with a Flextight.

Welcome back. That's a long hiatus. What prompted the new interest?

Man, I'd like to try that scanner. I have a glass carrier for mine and it really sucks. The problem is over time with all the cleaning it starts to get micro scratches and I can start to see the glass in the scan. Plus keeping 4 surfaces of glass and 2 surfaces of film clean is too much.

In my last few posts I took off the top glass lid and just taped the negative down. Much improved in clarity and less dust but you can see a blurry spot on the left next to my nephew's backpack. The negative was not flat enough apparently. The Flextight with a drum looks like it solves that problem.

It's a cool "virtual drum" slide/transparency scanner. It takes and bends the negative in an arc, and scans from he apex. They're pretty damned expensive, but my university has one for students to use. (:

I stopped shooting film after I took a photography class when I was 16. I didn't think I could afford film. Now I just miss the full 35mm frame, the DOF, and film grain (instead of sensor noise). Also, Pentax doesn't make a "full-frame" yet, and I couldn't afford it even if they did. (;

Yeah! I've found that scanners with film "holders" do a better job of holding the negative flat, and since that keeps the negative suspended away from the glass surfaces I imagine it makes it easier for the lens to focus on the negative.

35mm film is a lot "stiffer" and with the sprockets easier to suspend with no glass. 120 roll film does not suspend as well due to the larger area.

Sounds like how I make box macaroni and cheese.
I love that you can even DO things like this with film, with the DSLR I would get a row of blown out white bars in a field of blackness no matter how I exposed.
This is why I have a darkroom.

jt—Wow, what a mood—like climbing down into the mines of Moria or something. This shot also exemplifies Cartier-Bresson's quip: "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept."

Wired—I love the contrast, film grain, and the bokeh. Gotta love those M lenses. (:
