@Pentaxpete, thanks for sharing the piper. I have a copy of that 200mm f4 Tak and I haven't had a chance to use it yet. (SV still needs some work and my Spotty is, well...spotty). Upshot is, it's a great preview and motivator to get me off my duff and get my screwmount cameras back in good working order.

Like the look and feel of the first shot but it looks like you have got banding issues with your scanner.

A couple of HP5 shots. I found the first one while deleting/de-cluttering some of my scan folders. I think it would have been my ME Super because it was quite overexposed before I tweaked it.

As for the second shot, it was also HP5 and shot with my EOS 3. Does it look familiar to anyone?

Dang, flash-back. My first car as a teenager was a beat up MGB. It also had those twin Skinner Union carburetors on them. I was fortunate enough to have know a guy who knew how to tune and balance them and I learned how to do it myself from him. It seemed you had to tune them up for winter and summer conditions.

YES -- sometimes I get that 'banding' sometimes not -- c an you tell me what causes it ?

I've never worked on them, but very familiar with these - plenty of 60s and 70s built Austin, Morris and Triumph models with mum and dad as I was growing up.

BUT - it's only now I know them as anything other than "SU carbs" Thank you

Sorry Pete, I'm not really clued up on scanners but I suspect its hardware problem with the scanner itself. Hopefully someone else here will be able to help.

Another story. My 66' MGB ( Morris Garage) had a simple engine. The cylinder head had a siamese exhaust port in the center. And it was common for one of the the exhaust values sharing this port to get burnt edges when they got thin.

It happen to me one day. I had a connection to a auto shop that specialized in British sports cars. The owner gave me a used exhaust value for free, let me use their valve grinding machine and gave me a head gasket set at cost. So for $25 bucks I fixed a burnt valve and was back on the road by afternoon. I can't imaging fixing that kind of problem that cheap today.
