Another story. My 66' MGB ( Morris Garage) had a simple engine. The cylinder head had a siamese exhaust port in the center. And it was common for one of the the exhaust values sharing this port to get burnt edges when they got thin.
It happen to me one day. I had a connection to a auto shop that specialized in British sports cars. The owner gave me a used exhaust value for free, let me use their valve grinding machine and gave me a head gasket set at cost. So for $25 bucks I fixed a burnt valve and was back on the road by afternoon. I can't imaging fixing that kind of problem that cheap today.
