Regarding scanning - commercial scans, even good places, tend to over sharpen. I find I actually like the scans I get from my 4490, with the Epson 'medium' sharpening on, and then just a 0.2 radius 175% sharpen. Looks natural to me. I've done more elaborate 'low frequency' sharpening - starting at say 15 pix radius / 60 pix threshold and 60%... and then working my way down in two-three steps to the .2 at 175%. Helps sometimes.

This is from the same roll as yesterday, Foma 100 in Rodinal 1+50, Pacemaker Graphic and Fujinon SW 135/5.6 lens, and only the 0.2 sharpening

I had to google this camera, only 9500 sold. Nice pictures.

I think the black band is just a scanning area, or it could be that the camera's spacing is not very accurate.

Thanks guys, I also think it was the scanning, but being the camera sold as defective (btw it earned a bad reputation at the time in terms of reliability) I'm not that sure.

It's an interesting and very sophisticated camera, little known at its time, but I like the idea of a completely mechanical system camera like the Canon F-1 and Nikon F2 with Pentax bayonet (why hasn't Pentax made them?),this is the second specimen I own, the other hasthe excellent and dear Volna 50mm f1.8 that sometimes I also use on my Pentax bodies.

Thanks. Foggy season is starting in my area. I think its time to get out and look for more. I found when I place my fog 2 stops above my middle gray exposure, I get all the low values I usually want and get fog that is not too white unless it has some Sun in it.

I tried scanning one of my medium format negs using an Epson V750. Here is a comparison with the lo-res cheap commercial scan:

The main thing I noticed was the sag in the negs when scanning. This one was on the end of the strip so not too bad. I'll have to get one of those "Better Scanning" holders as the Epson one is clearly such a poor design.

Other than that, any thoughts?

Yours looks good, doesn't have the brutal sharpening of the commercial scan but is lacking contrast in the foreground. I've never had a problem with the stock holders, they are what they are and I've seen comparisons that show barely any difference with "improved" ones. Scanning is as much (or more) in the PP than in the scanning itself. It's a frustrating, time-consuming task
