Nice bike pics Cuthbert. I really like the Yamaha 750-3.
So in the end the Spottie mkII didn't self destroy in the bike ride as you feared?

Nice pics, did you also use a yellow filter? For my pics I am kind of disappointed because XP2 always gives me a watered down look, I used a YG filter, it did help some contrast but still with a lot of light it seems the film can't handle highlights well, still I'm missing the BW400CN.

Yes I forgot to mention I used a #15 deep yellow filter to darken the blue sky.

I've got the shots taken with my "new" Nikkormat FT3 and the F2A out of Ilfordlab, unfortunately even with a yellow filter I didn't get a nice sky like in your shots:

Still some shots are nice IMO, for instance bokeh test with Nikkor 50mm f2:

Not impressed, the bokeh is harsh even if the definition in DOF is very good.

These two are taken with the nice (and heavy) 300mm f4 IF, the bokeh is much better, not as good as the 85mm but not too bad.

Unfortunately the camera has a light leak when exposed at direct sunlight (and I don't have a case) but still I like this shot.

Same problem for this selfie with the 24mm f2.8,

This is the sharpness of the Nikkor zoom 35-200 AIs wide open (it was a competitor of the Pentax 35-210mm I wrote a review about), I shot at 200 mm not to disturb the painter.

50mm wide open.

Stepped down.

These are the shots of the FT3, later I'll post some of the F2, I hope you like them.

Film: HP5+ (and I think it's evident from the grain).

Cuthbert, I use a #15 deep yellow filter. It does a better job on the sky that the typical #8 yellow. And it only absorbs about an additional 1/3-1/2 stop more light than the #8. I really like what a #25 red does to a blue sky, but it absorbs so much light, severely darkens green foliage, and some cameras won't meter properly with the red.

I took a Fuji GSW690III out for a test drive. I shot a roll of 400TMY (at EI100) and 100ACR (shot normally) then developed them in the same tank with the same development time.

400TMY

100ACR

Thanks, Phil. I've been shooting digital for other people. It's not very fun. But with that behind me I do look forward to taking pictures for myself and more BW film work.

Set up some shots to test 400TMY and 100ACR in the same tank with sheet film too.

400TMY

100ACR.
That crooked chemical bottle bugs me to no end. I guess the tile was not flat on that spot.

Good to know this can be done - the results look very very similar to the Acros, maybe darker in the shadows. I've tried TMY400 at 200 but not at 100. It's the easiest and cheapest B&W film for me to get here (in the guise of Lomo Lady Grey.

Did you decrease the development time when you shot TMY at EI200? I also shoot TMY at EI50. I cut its normal dev time in half when I shoot it at that exposure index. That's why I can mix the two. It just so happens the time for TMY at EI100 is close enough to 100ACR's normal time I can mix them. I do that to get more dynamic range from the film.

So come to think of it, I shoot TMY at EI50, 100, 400 and 800. It is a very speed flexible film.

Yes, I'm sure I adjusted it, can't tell you by how much off the top of my head, but it would have been done by the book (the Ilfosol instructions).

Okay. I think most developers you can go a stop over exposing and under developing. Much more than that then it becomes developer dependent especially if a developer has a minimum required time.

I shoot TMY so much is mostly out of necessity. I can't use the glass negative carrier for my 120 roll film scanner anymore because it is too scratched up from years of cleaning the surface and it shows in the scans and a new one is not made anymore. Now, I have to use the crappy sock one and does not hold film that is thin or curly well at all.

TMY is among the thickest I've used and it will lay pretty flat. I even have a hard time with Acros now and I use to shoot that film a lot. I think someone needs to make a 120 roll film scanner with a round drum for a negative carrier instead of a flat plane. Film likes to wrap around a large diameter drum way better than lay flat.
