I've never seen a developer more sensitive to agitation than Rodinal not that I've used every developer out, however. And I'm surpised you don't get increased contrast from it. If one person developed the same film for the same time as another but one person did 3 inversions within 5 seconds every 30 seconds and another did 4 or did 3 inversions more vigorously, the second person would have their film noticeably developed more. Effectively speeding up the film. So, IMHO, when one person talks to another about development times with Rodinal, they need to also talk about how their agitation profile is the same.

I developed my first roll of film over the weekend. It was Kentmere 100, because it was cheap and I didn't want to waste anything expensive should my development fail. I've got a few more rolls, to play with before I try something else. Certainly, the film lacks contrast, and it didn't help that I overexposed a little. I'm just happy I successfully developed it at all, and that no one was harmed in the process. :-)

Congrats! The results look okay. It's an exciting feeling doing your first roll. At least it was for me.

Excellent shot of the C208 and jumpers loading but I could never figure out why someone would want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

Thanks. They probably jump out of it because their are no comfy seats and has that large opening in the back. So why not jump

But, man, those are practically stunt pilots and planes. It jumps off the runway, climbs to altitude as hard and fast as it can. And when the payload is dropped, it kamikaze dive bombs back to the airport again as hard and fast as it can.

To be honest, I think it was the way I scanned it, not the film itself. I did a few more this morning and tried something else with Rawtherapee and I didn't have to play with levels much or at all. It's a learning process, my DSLR "scanner" is still evolving.

FWIW, I did 4 agitations every minute, constant agitation for the first minute.

I used Ilford DDX, but I have no idea why. I suppose I read a recommendation for it somewhere. It seems to have done a decent job, and yes, I was quite excited! It was quite a bit of fun... more than I was expecting.

I just started developing this year as well, earlier this summer. I started with the same developer, seems like a good starting point. I bought some rodinal recently, not sure why beyond I was intrigued.

How are you scanning your negatives?

Here are a few more photos from the roll. I think they turned out ok - I could have increased the contrast even more, but I think would have started blowing out highlights.

I use an old Epson 1650 flatbed scanner + Vuescan Pro which I won and PhotoShop 7 for negatives and slides as it automatically goes to PhotoShop but if I scan PRINTS I have an old 'MUSTEK 1200UB ' flatbed and they come out as 'JPegs' whereas the Epson 1650 is set up to produce 'TIFFS'. If I want to I can do a DARKROOM Print and scan that.

I love that fisheye lens!

You can perhaps pump up contrast a bit in (digital) PP.

Pentax MZ-S + FA 77/1.8 + Kentmere 100.
Developer: Kodak D-76 1+1; 11.5 minutes @ 20 ºC.
DSLR digitized.

Thanks. I'm starting to explore more night work before the long, cold nights get here.

Pentax K2.
ORWO UN54.
(For an expired film it turned out nicely.)

Completely blew the exposure here. Forgot that I had changed the shutter speed shortly before, and as such didn't meter before shooting. Still, it was saveable.
