It appears to be a very contrasty film when you don't screw up the exposure. Will take some getting used to.
Were you using AE?

Nope. Entirely manual. I was using an accessory shoe-mounted meter, so it's possible I just metered off the wrong spot.

That is my impression as well, just looking at the examples I have seen posted. I am wondering if dilute developer, semi-stand might work well.

How are the shutter speeds on the Contax II?

It's a Contax, so who knows.

Find a spot that is well suited to a Sunny 16 Rule exposure, has shadows and bracket a few from the rule. If your shadows are deep and you add more exposure with little difference, it is a long-toe film and will always be touchy on the exposure if you also want to include a well exposed sky. But Fall is coming and at your latitude you'll soon need to be tweaking the Sunny 16 Rule for your geographic location.

My film cameras have no meter so I shoot most of my pictures with only the Sunny 16 Rule and I find it a good way to get the feel for of a film as well as establish a development time for it.

You can also use a polarizer to help with the sky.

Yes but to evaluate the film's characteristics you don't want to mask its results.

Chairs on the Alvord Desert

GSW690III, 400TMY @ EI 100. Sunny 16 exposure.
Shooting this film at EI 100 feels like it straightens out the toe and the shoulder of the film to some degree. But it also gives it a more digital look with this tabular film.

Seeing these and others you've done inspired me to give it a try with my 645N. I'm not expecting much from my first attempts, but am looking forward to seeing what I've come up with.

Interesting to learn there are plane crash sites in the US with debris just lying around on the ground. I generally think of things like that being discovered on jungle islands that were fought over in WWII.
